つい先日まで感染経路がはっきりわからなかった病気がロサンジェルスにも広まっていると騒ぎになっています。その名も Explosive Diarrhea. エクスプローシブとは爆発性のという意味で、ダイアリアは下痢という意味です。大暴発するスーパー下痢という末恐ろしいおっかないものです。
この暴発ゲーリーですが正式には Cyclospora サイクスポラというらしく食べ物を介して感染する寄生虫だそうです。昔から知られていた病原体ですが今年5月に入ってからアメリカでは大流行してしまっているようで、現在確認されているケースでは1645にのぼるそうです。前年は249件だったそうなのでまだ7月の現在ですでに去年に比べ約７倍ほど感染していることになるのでアメリカ疾病予防管理センター、コロナの時よく出てきたいわゆるCDCという連邦機関、では注意喚起を出しています。幸いにもパンデミックになる可能性はかなり低いようなので今は一安心です。
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is notifying clinicians, public health practitioners, and laboratorians of cases of domestically acquired cyclosporiasis in multiple U.S. states. Since May 1, 2026, CDC has received reports of 1,645 confirmed domestic cases of cyclosporiasis and is aware of more than 5,100 cases that require further analysis to confirm the illness as domestically acquired cyclosporiasis. This is substantially higher than the 249 cases reported nationally by this same time last year.
CDCによれば、感染してから1週間後ほどで爆裂下痢が始まるようです。主な症状は食欲不振、体重減少、腹部の膨張感、吐き気や疲労だそうですが、要するに誰しも経験するトイレでため息が出るような感じのやつです。厄介なのは検査しても便からこの寄生虫を見つけるのが難しいことだそうです。1,645人の感染者から死者は出ていないようなので少し安心できるものの、車社会のロサンジェルスでこの病気は相当やゔぁいです。朝のフリーウエイで渋滞中の時にこの症状が出たらどうしたらいいのでしょうか？神様に頼むしかないですね。
(CNN) – Taylor Fresh Foods and Taylor Farms said they are recalling all of its iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico that was sold in the U.S. amid an outbreak of explosive diarrhea caused by a parasite.
The vegetable and fruit producer said the lettuce was distributed from June 29 through July 16 in 27 states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Texas.
It comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it was able to link cases of cyclosporiasis to lettuce sold at some Taco Bell restaurants.
The lettuce was supplied by Taylor Farms.
“The one thing to remember about this illness is that the character of the diarrhea is, sorry to be graphic, is a bit on the explosive side.”
